Weekends are for Love - NYC EDITION

When you’re a parent, it’s really easy to get into a daily routine and stick with it because that’s what makes sh*t work best when you have multiple moving parts but, for me, it can also make life monotonous. Women (and some men I know), hear me when I say, we are are too special for that.

I stress alone time a lot but if you’re in a relationship, time together is really important too. I married Dave because simply put, we always have fun together. Alone. WITHOUT KIDS.  Without friends. As a parent today, constant sense of guilt is very real. Especially when you want alone time. For us, we realized it’s necessary for keeping our relationship, our home, and ourselves happy.

We make at least two dates a month. Sometimes that’s the minimum and sometimes it’s the maximum but we make it happen. We aren’t big party people but we do fancy a good time! We hang locally (CT edition coming soon) but a little time in the city is always a good idea. On Friday evenings, I’ve also been known to book a sitter and take off to meet Dave in the city after he gets out of the office.

We’ve had some fun, slightly unconventional dates in the past.  I’ve also included some things that we hope to do soon.

EatWith

A multi-course prix-fixe meal prepared for you in someone’s home as you dine with a group of strangers. We’ve done three EatWith dinners so far. All have been unique, delicious, and a really good time! Prices vary and you are typically encouraged to BYOB. You can choose from a variety of cuisine. Book directly on the app! Experiences are available in most major cities AND internationally. Ai in Brooklyn is the best.

Broadway
I love theatre and luckily Dave is always on board.  I usually get tickets on the TodayTix app.  Despite the name, you can purchase the day of or far in advance, at a discount.

Burlesque

I’ll just get to the point here…why not some boobs with good food?  The food is actually delicious and the women give empowering, jaw-dropping performances.  There are several burlesque clubs; our favorite is Duane Park.  Reserve seats in advance.

Art

Many of the museums in the city offer evening hours on weekends.  We’ve walked the Botanical Gardens at night for a Chihuly exhibit and it was peaceful magic.  I highly recommend.

Cooking Class

I don’t love cooking BUT cooking together, when guided by a professional, has been a lot of fun.  Rustico Kitchen is our favorite!

The League of Kitchens

We have yet to try this but it looks AMAZING and it’s on our list.  Women from around the world welcome you into their homes and teach you to cook their family recipes.

Interactive Dining Experience

With so much talent in the city, there are a variety of interactive dining options.  Dave may not know it yet but a drag dinner show is absolutely in our future.  I’ve never laughed so hard or as much as when I see some queens perform.

Paint Night

I use to think paint nights were corny but it turns out, they’re actually a good time.  Real talk though…the projects all have a similar style that looks like something I don’t actually want hanging in my house.  There. I said it.  I did discover a Graffiti lesson though!   Absolutely going to book this soon.
